How to play the Daily Anagram Puzzle

Rearrange all the displayed letters to form one British English word. Every letter must be used exactly once.

  1. Study the scrambled letter tiles.
  2. Rearrange the letters to find a word.
  3. Enter your answer in the box.
  4. Select Check Answer.
  5. Try again or request a hint if the answer is incorrect.

Everyone receives the same puzzle for the current day. A new anagram appears automatically when the WordPress date changes.

Daily puzzle difficulty

The answer contains between seven and ten letters. The puzzle collection uses medium-difficulty British English vocabulary, making it more challenging than a basic five-letter anagram without relying entirely on obscure words.

Possible answers may include:

  • Common nouns
  • Verbs and their recognised forms
  • Adjectives and adverbs
  • Plural words
  • Traditional British spellings
  • Accepted Oxford spelling variants

Using the hints

Select Get a Hint when you need some help. Three progressive hints are available:

  1. The first letter of the answer
  2. The final letter of the answer
  3. The number of vowels in the answer

Hints do not automatically end the puzzle, so you can still solve it and continue your winning streak.

Revealing the answer

Select Reveal Answer if you are completely stuck. You will be asked to confirm before the answer is displayed.

A revealed answer does not count as a win. Return tomorrow for a new opportunity to continue or restart your streak.

Your winning streak

The winning streak records how many consecutive daily puzzles you have solved successfully.

Your streak is stored locally in your web browser. British Wordsmith does not require an account and does not receive your puzzle history.

Your streak may be reset if you:

  • Clear your browser’s stored website data
  • Use a different browser or device
  • Browse in private or incognito mode
  • Miss a daily puzzle

Tips for solving longer anagrams

  • Separate vowels from consonants.
  • Look for common endings such as ING, ED, ER, LY and TION.
  • Look for common beginnings such as RE, UN, DIS, PRE and CON.
  • Check whether the word could be a plural.
  • Group familiar letter combinations such as TH, SH, CH and QU.
  • Write down smaller words that use some of the letters.
  • Use the first hint before revealing the complete answer.

Frequently asked questions

Can a letter be used more than once?

Only when that letter appears more than once among the scrambled tiles. Every displayed tile must be used exactly once.

Are spaces or hyphens required?

No. Daily answers are single words containing ordinary letters without spaces or hyphens.

Does using a hint prevent a win?

No. You can use any of the three hints and still record a successful daily result.

Does revealing the answer count as a win?

No. The Reveal Answer option ends the current attempt without increasing the winning streak.

Why has my winning streak disappeared?

Streak information is stored in the current browser rather than in an online account. Clearing stored data or changing browsers or devices will start a separate streak.
